Who We Are
Kenya Muslim women alliance (KEMWA) is a Non-partisan, Non-profit making and Non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Mombasa, Kenya whose objective is to promote good governance, social and economic development towards society wellbeing. KEMWA was officially launched in 2010 in the aim of addressing the difficulties that are facing women in the coastal region and promoting their rights. Since then, KEMWA has been an umbrella body that brings together various national and regional organizations in conveying relatable societal problems and solutions. Over the past 9 years, we have worked to empower women in decision making process and fighting gender-based violence.
In the commitment of our work and scope, KEMWA has set national standards in achieving gender equality; we work with governments, civil societies and other organizations in advocating and designing policies, laws, programs and services that benefit women and girls. Not only that, KEMWA has also embodied responsibilities of youth empowerment initiatives (i.e. Tujenge Mombasa yetu youth group), mentoring programs, promotion of good governance, curbing drugs maniacs, social and economic development.
